9.45pm: Kim Jong-un unveils latest infrastructure project

North Korea has quietly unveiled its long-anticipated Ryugyong Hotel, dubbed the ’hotel of doom’. 

Pyongyang’s newest landmark has finally been finished after years of setbacks, but there are questions over whether it is safe to inhabit. 

8.45 pm: Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang airs his views on the issue

Weighing in on the issue, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said: “China has fulfilled its responsibility in promoting a proper resolution to the North Korean nuclear issue and our efforts have been clear for all to see. 

“The issue was not caused by China and its resolution requires multilateral efforts.”

7.45pm: North Korea’s latest missile was its most successful in history 

North Korea’s Friday missile test was the hermit state’s longest ballistic missile flight yet, according to Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis. 

The ICBM tracked roughly 620 miles (1,000 km) and was airborne for 45 minutes before landing in the Sea of Japan.

According to Mr Davis, the missile fell just 88 nautical miles the west of the island of Hokkaido.

6pm: 'China is not responsible for North Korea' says UN ambassador

China's UN ambassador Liu Jieyi believe that it is not China’s responsibility to sort out the denuclearisation of North Korea.

Speaking at press conference, Mr Liu placed the burden of the situation squarely on Washington and Pyongyang.

“They hold the primary responsibility to keep things moving, to start moving in the right direction, not China," he explained.

"No matter how capable China is, China's efforts will not yield practical results because it depends on the two principal parties," he added.

7pm: Donald Trump boasts: ‘We will handle North Korea’

President Donald Trump issued a bold warning to North Korea, insisting that if Pyongyang does not step down from its nuclear programme, the US will deal with the situation.

Speaking to a press conference after a cabinet meeting, Mr Trump said: "We'll handle North Korea. We will be able to handle North Korea. 

“It will be handled. We've handled everything.”

2pm: Russia claims US is ‘shifting’ the blame on North Korea 

Russia's Foreign Ministry said the US and other countries are trying "to shift responsibility for the situation to Russia and China”. 

It added that such attempts were baseless. Russia raised concern about recent developments on the Korean peninsula following  Pyongyang's missile test.

11am: Donald Trump vows to use 'full range of US capabilties'

The US President will use the 'full range of US capabilties' to protect its allies from any attack by North Korea, a White House statement said. 

Donald Trump "reaffirmed our ironclad commitment" to defend Japan and South Korea during a phone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. 

The White House said the two leaders "agreed that North Korea poses a grave and growing direct threat to the United States, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and other countries near and far".

Mr Abe and Mr Trump did not discuss military action, nor what would constitute the crossing of a "red line" by Pyongyang, Deputy Chief Cabinet spokesman Koichi Hagiuda said.

10am: China rejects Donald Trump’s accusation on North Korea 

The North Korean nuclear issue did not arise because of China, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in response to Donald Trump’s Twitter attack. 

On Saturday Mr Trump tweeted: “I am very disappointed in China. Our foolish past leaders have allowed them to make hundreds of billions of dollars a year in trade, yet they do NOTHING for us with North Korea, just talk. 

“We will no longer allow this to continue. China could easily solve this problem!”

Resolving the North Korean nuclear issue requires joint efforts from all sides, China's Foreign Ministry said today.

9am: Donald Trump and Shinzo Abe vow to take ‘all necessary measures’

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Donald Trump agreed the need for more action against North Korea in the wake of the latest missile test. 

Mr Abe told reporters that repeated efforts by the international community to find a peaceful solution to the North Korean issue had yet to deter Pyongyang.

"International society, including Russia and China, need to take this seriously and increase pressure," he said.

Mr Abe added that he backed Mr Trump's “commitment to taking all necessary measures to protect allies".

8am: Washington is "done talking about North Korea"

Nikki Haley, US Ambassador to the United Nations, warned the US is “done talking about North Korea” and China must decide if it is willing to impose stronger UN sanctions on North Korea.

She said any new UN Security Council resolution "that does not significantly increase the international pressure on North Korea is of no value", adding that Japan and South Korea also needed to do more.

7am: China rejects Donald Trump’s criticism on North Korea 

There is no link between North Korea's nuclear programme and China-US trade, a senior Chinese official said on Monday, after Donald Trump said China had done nothing for the US on North Korea.

Asked about his tweets, Chinese Vice Commerce Minister Qian Keming said: "We think the North Korea nuclear issue and China-US trade are issues that are in two completely different domains. 

“They aren't related. They should not be discussed together."

He added: "China will continue to work together with the international community to promote the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula, and China is also willing to work with the US side for more balanced development of the bilateral trade relationship."

6am: US flies supersonic bombers over the Korean peninsula

The US flew two supersonic B-1B bombers over the Korean peninsula in a show of force on Sunday after Pyongyang's missile test, the US and South Korean Air Forces said.

The B-1B flight was in direct response to the missile test and the previous July 3 launch of the "Hwasong-14" rocket, the US statement said. 

The bombers took off from a US air base in Guam, and were joined by Japanese and South Korean fighter jets during the exercise. 

5am: North Korea claims it can strike US mainland

North Korea said its successful test of an ICBM on Friday that proved its ability to strike America's mainland. 

Kim Jong-un's regime tested a missile capable of reaching Alaska during its first ICBM test on July 4.
